Amazing Graces
This is my new favorite place in town. Like many great places, the atmosphere and buzz totally understate the quality of the food. EVERYTHING I've had here has been amazing, from lamb kofta kabob, to the seasoned chicken kabobs, to the veggie curries, to the appetizers, to the rice pudding dessert (my only complaint is that this dessert is a little pricey, but not really compared to other restaurants). This is the authentic deal, by far, real recipes, real ingredients, real cooking, real food. Expertly seasoned and flavored and everything very fresh. I really hope they make it as this is a culinary gem. Trust me, I am a seasoned restaurant business pro (in the business 20+yrs), and can tell quality (sadly lacking in so many defrost/ reheat establishments) when I taste it!
Excellent Vegetarian Options
My office has bi-weekly lunch meetings. We are an eclectic group of people and many of us are vegetarian. We tried Kabob House for a lunch meeting on a whim two months ago, and now demand it for every meeting. I have not tried any of their meat dishes, but I can tell you that I have now tried every vegetarian dish on their menu and they are all excellent. Their garlic naan and Dal masala are my favorites.
They aren't cheap but the portions are very large, one order of palak paneer and garlic naan will easily feed me for two meals.
Their dishes are all very mild, so if you want spicy you just have to ask!
They will go out of their way for large office orders. They have customized the menu items for us many times and offered to deliver.
I would really love for this restaurant to survive!
A positive addition for Gainesville's palate
It's probably dangerous to comment on a restaurant after tasting only three dishes, but new restaurants get the most interest on Menu Wall, so here goes.
In the downtown Sun Center is Sun Center Kabob. You don't go for the atmosphere, because it is basic tables with their napkin dispensers in the open floor plan of the center.
The food is good, however, and comes on perfectly crisp naan. We tried a marinated chicken, a ground beef, and palaak paneer. Both the chicken and the beef were perfectly seasoned. The chicken was moist as well, something many restaurants can't seem to manage with boneless cuts. The paneer was a bit mild for my taste, but the food is seasoned to order, so next time I'll just ask them to punch it up. I was disappointed only in the drink menu, which consisted of soda and American tea. How about some spice-infused chai to balance things out?
